The government has made negative COVID status a must for passengers coming from those nations. The government decided to enhance surveillance and containment effort within the State by tracking and quarantining the primary and secondary contacts of the COVID-positive persons. “The international travelers from high-risk countries - China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand - need to be home quarantined for 7 days from the date of their arrival. Once tested positive, the infected people are to be treated and managed as per the State COVID protocol,” said a circular from Health Department meant for the international passengers. "Political Chameleon": Karnataka's HD Kumaraswamy's Swipe At Amit Shah

JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday called BJP a party full of "hypocrisies and lies" and Union Home Minister Amit Shah "a political chameleon" and "reincarnation" of Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels. The former Chief Minister through a series of tweets has reacted to the saffron party leader's attack against JD(S). "The fact that BJP-Bari Bootatike Party (a party full of hypocrisies) is a party of liars was made evident by your yapping lies. @AmitShah You are a political chameleon! This is the true face of your party. You're a reincarnation of Joseph Goebbels. You're disgraceful," Kumaraswamy said. Pointing at Shah's allegation that Karnataka will become the ATM of the JD(S) party if it wins, he said if the regional party forms the government, it will become the ATM of the crores of Kannadigas, farmers, labourers, the oppressed, and the disabled. "JD(S) is the people's ATM. ATM means Any Time Manushyatva (Human...

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday ordered a compensation of Rs 50.88 crore to 48,593 farmers of 27 districts, including the worst-affected Mayiladuthurai, for their crop loss due to the Northeast Monsoon. Congress, Janata Dal Secular "Corrupt, Dynastic" Parties: Amit Shah

Hitting the ground running in poll-bound Karnataka, Union Home Minister Amit Shah called both the Congress and JD(S) as 'parivaarvadi' (dynastic politics) and corrupt and urged the people of Mandya and Old Mysuru region to support the BJP and bring it to power with a majority in the state. The BJP is considered to be weak in the Vokkaliga-dominated Old Mysuru region, and is focusing on this belt to gain complete majority in 2023 Assembly polls. "Enough of JD(S)-Congress, Congress-JD(S) this time Mandya, the Mysuru region should make BJP win with full majority. Congress and JD(S) are both parivaarvadi (dynastic politics) parties, they are corrupt pirates," Shah said. Addressing a massive public meeting as part of the ongoing 'Janasankalpa Yatre' of the state BJP, he said, "We have seen administration of both parties, when Congress comes, Karnataka will become Delhi's ATM and when JD(S) comes it becomes ATM for a family. Repeatedly these two parties ...

"Heinous": Andhra Chief Minister Tears Into Rival Over 8 Deaths At Rally

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy today blamed Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu for the death of eight people at a roadshow organised by his party at Kandukur in Nellore district of the state on Wednesday. He said Chandrababu Naidu's "publicity mania" caused the tragedy, and demanded an immediate and public apology from him. Chandrababu Naidu had earlier today expressed grief over the death of his party workers. "This is a sad incident. I'm feeling very sorry about it," he said, according to news agency ANI. TDP has also announced that it will pay Rs 24 lakh each to the families of the eight who died in the stampede. "Babu killed eight people for his political benefits, it is so heinous and shameful. For the sake of a photo shoot, for a drone shot, even though there were few people, they pushed people into a narrow lane in order to show big numbers. They used their vehicle like a barricade and killed eight people... will there ...

I'm AIADMK Coordinator: Tamil Nadu's OPS Reiterates After Poll Body Letter

Till date, the Election Commission has addressed him as AIADMK Coordinator in official letters, former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) said here today. Speaking to reporters at the airport, Panneerselvam, when asked on an official letter addressing Edappadi K Palaniswami as AIADMK 'General Secretary' said that it was a 'wrong' information. The Commission, in every letter till date addressed him as coordinator, he said. The Election Commission on December 29 said it has developed a prototype of a Remote Electronic Voting Machine (RVM) for domestic migrant voters and has invited political parties for a demonstration on January 16. In this connection, the poll panel has reportedly sent a letter to Coordinator (Panneerselvam) and Joint Coordinator (Palaniswami). The National Law Commission, in a letter, to AIADMK sought the views of Palaniswami on holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. The Panneerselvam camp objected to it. ...

Karnataka Decides To Abolish 2 Catagories Of Backward Classes

The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday decided to abolish two categories of the Other Backward Castes (OBC) and replace them with the two new categories. The State has four categories of OBC: 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B based on the economic, social and educational status. These communities get preferential reservations in jobs and educational institutions based on the categories. While 2A are the most backward, 2B are moderate, and little above them are 3A and 3B. The two dominant communities -- Vokkaliga and Panchamasalis -- which are in 3A and 3B category, have been demanding reservations under 2A status, and the State government decided to abolish 3A and 3B categories. The government decided to create two new categories of 2C and 2D. Those who are presently 3A and 3B would now find place in 2C and 2D. Apart from them, the economically weaker section (EWS) for whom reservation has been announced by the Centre would also be placed under 2C and 2D category. "We are making only two catego...

Congress Leader's "Soft Hindutva" Remark Sparks Debate In Kerala

A debate is raging in the political circles of Kerala over Congress veteran A K Antony's warning that ignoring Hindus in the name of distancing away from 'soft Hindutva' will only help Prime Minister Narendra Modi to retain power in New Delhi, with party leaders speaking for and against the former state Chief Minister. "Along with the minorities, the majority Hindus should also be aligned in (Congress's) fight against Modi. The approach (of a section) that those Hindu friends visiting temples and applying sandal paste (tilak) on their foreheads are standing on the soft Hindutva side will only help Modi to retain power," Mr Antony had said. The veteran made the remarks while addressing party workers on Wednesday on the 138th foundation day of the Indian National Congress at the KPCC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. Totally backing Mr Antony, senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan accused Kerala's ruling CPI(M) of creating confusion among people on the...

"Not Just Minorities...": Congress's AK Antony On "Defeat Modi" Strategy

Top Congress leader AK Antony has said the strategy to defeat the BJP and PM Narendra Modi in 2024 should not include "just minorities", and that Hindus need to be appealed to as well. "It's not just minorities that you require. The majority are Hindus," he said, speaking at the Congress foundation day function earlier this week in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram.  "Here, Muslims can go to mosques, Christians can go to churches; but when Hindu friends go to a temple or apply tilak, it's labelled as 'soft Hindutva'," the former Defence Minister said, speaking in Malayalam. "If that attitude is practiced, it will help Modi come back to power again," he added. "We need the support of both minority and majority communities to fight against Modi... We should be able to rally Hindus also in fighting against Modi. Congress is trying to keep all together," Mr Antony was quoted as saying. The BJP pitched it as a "got yo...

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said services of the remaining 30,867 "Pourakarmikas" (civic workers) working in the State will be regularised in the coming days. CBI Gives Clean Chit To Oommen Chandy In Sexual Exploitation Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a report in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Thiruvananthapuram giving clean chit to former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy in the sexual exploitation allegation levelled by a prime accused woman in the sensational solar scam. The CBI submitted the referral report in the court here on Tuesday, sources told Press Trust of India. Last year, the CBI had taken over the investigation into cases against Oommen Chandy, former Union minister KC Venugopal and other politicians related to allegations of sexual exploitation by the accused woman. The cases against the six persons, including Oommen Chandy, were registered over the last few years and investigated by the Crime Branch of the Kerala Police based on a complaint by the woman, an accused in the multi-crore solar panel scam during the UDF government, that she was sexually exploited by them in 2012. The CPI(M)-led Kerala government had recommended a CBI inquiry into the c...

Karnataka Health Minister Slams Opposition For Politicising Covid Advisory

Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar today denounced the political twist being given to the state government's COVID-19 related advisory, by the opposition parties, saying it was issued based on scientific evidence and not for political reasons. While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is continuing his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' across the country, the JD(S) second-in-command H D Kumaraswamy is conducting 'Pancharatna Yatra.'  With just four months left for the assembly elections in Karnataka, the political atmosphere in the state is charged. However, in view of the Covid situation in certain parts of the world, especially, China and the United States, the Karnataka government issued an advisory about the dos and don'ts. The JD(S) has come down heavily on the government's move, saying the advisory is aimed at restricting it from taking out 'Pancharatna Yatra.'  Reacting to the accusation, the Health Minister said, "Action taken to control COVID-19 is ba...
