Telangana Congress Leader G Niranjan lodged a complaint against BRS MLC K Kavitha on Thursday, accusing her of violating the model code of conduct by "asking for votes" on a polling day. Telangana Assembly Polls: PM Modi Urges People To Vote In Record Numbers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday urged the people of Telangana to vote in record numbers in the assembly polls and strengthen the festival of democracy.  Polling is underway to elect 119 members of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, with voters queuing up to exercise their franchise amid tight security on Thursday. In a post on X, PM Modi said, "I call upon my sisters and brothers of Telangana to vote in record numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy." Karnataka Issues Advisory After Surge In Respiratory Illness In China

The Karnataka government's health department has put its healthcare infrastructure across the state on alert mode following reports of a surge in respiratory illnesses among children in China. The action comes after the Centre issued an advisory to States and Union Territories urging them to immediately review public health and hospital preparedness measures. The Karnataka Health Department also issued an advisory for citizens to be aware of the seasonal flu virus in regard to the same. "Completely Illegal": Probe Agency Summons To 5 Tamil Nadu Officers Paused

The Madras High Court today stayed the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to five district collectors in Tamil Nadu in connection with alleged illegal sand mining in the state. Five members of a family were found dead in Sadashivanagar here in a suspected case of a suicide pact, police said on Monday. Financial problems and alleged harassment by money lenders are believed to be the reason behind the extreme step. Over 30 Injured In Collision Between Two Buses In Kerala: Cops

Over 30 people were injured in a head-on collision between two buses of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation near Neyyattinkara here, police said on Sunday. The drivers of the two buses were seriously injured in the incident, which occurred at around 10 pm on Saturday, they said. The other injured are fine, it said. Expert Panel To Probe Campus Stampede That Killed Four: Kerala Minister

The Kerala government on Sunday said it has decided to constitute an expert committee to look into the stampede during Cochin University's annual festival a day ago that claimed four lives and injured over 60 others. State Higher Education Minister R Bindu said the expert panel will also frame terms of reference to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future. A cigarette butt carelessly discarded on a boat sparked the massive fire in Visakhapatnam jetty, which destroyed over 30 fishing vessels, said police on Saturday. Karnataka Approves Proposal To Withdraw CBI Case Against DK Shivakumar

The Congress-ruled Karnataka government has approved a proposal to withdraw a case being handled by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into alleged disproportionate assets owned by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, sources have said. The proposal by the home department was placed before the state cabinet to hand over the investigation to the state police or the anti-corruption authority Lokayukta, they said. The state government will look at approaching the court, now that the proposal has been cleared by the cabinet. The previous BJP government had handed over the case to the CBI. Karnataka Advocate General K Shashi Kiran Shetty put together the proposal to withdraw the case against Mr Shivakumar. Actor Prakash Raj has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in an alleged Rs 100-crore Ponzi scheme linked to a jeweller. Mr Raj was the brand ambassador of Pranav Jewellers, a chain accused of running the scam. The ED had raided branches of the Trichy-based jewellery chain, which has branches in several places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, including Chennai, for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme and duping investors of Rs 100 crore. The actor, who had been the brand ambassador of the jeweller for a significant period, has not given a statement on the matter yet. S Sreesanth Charged In Rs 18.7 Lakh Cheating Case By Kerala Man

The police have registered a cheating case against cricketer S Sreesanth and two others based on a complaint filed by a man in north Kerala's Kannur district. The complainant, hailing from Choonda, alleged that the accused, Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini, took Rs 18.70 lakh on various dates starting April 25, 2019, by claiming that they would build a sports academy in Kollur, Karnataka, in which cricketer Sreesanth is a partner. In his complaint, Sareesh Gopalan said he invested the money after being offered the opportunity to become a partner in the academy. Sreesanth and the two others have been charged under IPC Section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property). The raids were launched under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) on Tuesday at four locations, including the politician's residences in Hyderabad, office premises of his company Visaka Industries Ltd. in Hyderabad and that of Vigilance Security Services Pvt. Ltd. in Ramagundam, and his temporary place of residence at Hitech City in Mancherial district where he was present, the federal probe agency said in a statement. Karnataka To Waive Rs 389 Crore Arrears Of Beneficiaries Of 3 Power Schemes

The Karnataka government has decided to waive arrears to the tune of Rs 389 crore of 'Kuteera Bhagya', 'Bhagya Jyoti' and 'Amruta Jyoti' scheme beneficiaries who were either getting power free of cost or at a highly subsidised rates, Energy Minister K J George said on Tuesday. It has already merged these three schemes with its ambitious 'Gruha Jyoti' scheme offering free electricity up to 200 units to residential power connections. "Earlier, beneficiaries of 'Kuteera Bhagya' and 'Bhagya Jyoti' were getting 40 units and 'Amruta Jyoti' beneficiaries 75 units. We have decided that those getting 40 units will now get 50 units plus 10 units and those getting 75 units will get an additional 10 per cent," Mr George told reporters. Four teams have been constituted to investigate the case of electrocution of a woman and her nine-month-old daughter at Whitefield on the city's outskirts, Karnataka Energy Minister K J George said on Tuesday. Karnataka Court Allows Pregnant Woman To Write Judge Exam In Home Town

In a first-of-its-kind arrangement, the High Court of Karnataka has allowed a candidate appearing for the Civil Judge mains exams to write the test in her hometown of Mangaluru as she was 8.5 months pregnant and was unable to travel to Bengaluru. The high court issued notification for conducting the exams for recruitment of 57 Judges in March this year. The preliminary exams were held on July 23, 2023. Of the over 6,000 candidates, 1,022 were selected for the mains exam scheduled on Saturday and Sunday in Bengaluru. Nethravathi, an advocate from Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada district, had qualified for the mains exam.
