2 Career Criminals Shot Dead In Encounter By Tamil Nadu Police Near Chennai

Two career criminals -- Vinod, and Ramesh -- were killed in a police encounter at Guduvanchery, outside Chennai, around midnight. Police claim a four-member gang travelling in an SUV hit a patrol party when they stopped it at Guduvancherri, under Tambaram city outside Chennai. The gang also allegedly assaulted the police and threw a country made bomb at them. "It was at this point that a Sub-inspector and an Inspector opened fire. Two men were injured and were taken to the Chengalpattu Government hospital, where they were declared dead. The other two escaped," Pa Moorthy, Additional Commissioner of Police, said. Toll Plaza Worker Killed After Being Hit By Speeding Truck In Madurai

In a tragic incident an employee of Masthanpatti toll plaza in Tamil Nadu's Madurai was killed after a speeding truck knocked him down on Sunday. The deceased Satish Kumar was a resident of Sakhimangalam in the Madurai district. As per information, the driver lost control of his vehicle due to brake failure. 4 Women Drown After Car Falls Into Canal In Karnataka: Cops

Four women drowned after the car they were travelling in fell into Visvesvaraya Canal in Mandya district of Karnataka, police said on Sunday. The incident happened on Saturday night near Gamanahalli in Srirangapatna taluk of the district, and those dead have been identified as Mahadevamma and her relatives Sanjana, Maadevi and Rekha. Manoj, who drove the car, survived as he managed to swim to the bank of the canal. He has been admitted to hospital for treatment. Kerala Police today posted an apology after an overnight search for a missing five-year-old girl ended with the recovery of her body from a dump site in the state's Ernakulam district. The girl was sexually assaulted and strangled to death after being kidnapped by a migrant worker from her home, officials said. "Sorry daughter," Kerala Police said in a tweet. "Our efforts to bring her alive to her parents were unsuccessful. The suspect who kidnapped the child was arrested," read the post in Malayalam. A five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and strangled to death by a migrant worker in Kerala's Ernakulam district. The accused dumped her body in a sack and led the police to the crime spot a day later, cops have said. The accused was arrested last night but retrieving information from him took hours since he was in an inebriated state, said police even as search operations continued overnight. The daughter of a couple from Bihar went missing last evening after she was seen being taken away by the accused in a CCTV footage. Eight people, including three women were killed in an explosion at a firecracker unit in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district today, said police. The sudden explosion that occurred in the firecracker manufacturing godown in Tamil Nadu's Pazhayapettai in Krishnagiri district left many injured. Chennai Publisher Arrested For Comments On Judiciary Over Manipur Violence

Chennai-based publisher and blogger Badri Seshadri was arrested on Saturday for his comments on the judiciary while discussing the Manipur violence in an interview with a YouTube channel. The arrest was made early this morning by the Perambalur district police following a complaint from a lawyer Kaviarasu, a resident of Kunnam, who claimed that he was disturbed by Seshadri's views on the judiciary, during an interview with a YouTube channel on July 22. A man, who was posing as Navy officer, has been arrested for duping unemployed youth for money in the name of giving them jobs, police said. Kerala Announces Reservation For Transgender Students In Nursing Courses

The Kerala government has announced its decision to grant reservation to transgender students pursuing nursing courses in the state. Making the announcement, Health Minister Veena George said one seat each would be reserved for the TG members in the BSc nursing and general nursing courses from now onwards. "This is for the first time in the history (of the state) that reservation has been granted for transgenders in the field of nursing", she said in a statement here. The state government has been taking great initiatives for the upliftment of the marginalised community and the reservation in the nursing sector is part of such efforts, she said. Rail-Coach Restaurant To Be Set Up At 2 Bengaluru Railway Stations By Oct

Two railway stations in Bengaluru will soon get a theme-based air-conditioned rail-coach restaurant with state-of-the-art facilities which will be set up by the South Western Railway here. Passengers visiting the KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station and the newly inaugurated Sir M Visvesvarya Terminal Bengaluru Station (SMVB) will be able to avail of this new facility likely by October at these stations, officials said today. As of now, only two such restaurants have been planned. However, post the re-development of Yesvantpur and Bengaluru Cantonment, the possibility of establishing similar restaurants there will be explored, they said. 5 Places In Andhra Pradesh Log Very Heavy Rain In 24 Hours

As many as five places in coastal Andhra Pradesh have recorded very heavy rainfall in the 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, said a Meteorological department official today. Narsipatnam in Anakapalli district and Nuziveedu in Eluru district logged rainfall of 12 centimetres each. Eluru town in the eponymous district witnessed 11 cm rainfall, followed by Chintur in Alluri Sitaramaraju district and Machilipatnam in Krishna district recording 10 cm each, the official told PTI today. According to rainfall classification by the India Meteorological Department, a downpour within a 24-hour period of 64.5 mm (6.45 cm) to 115.5 mm (11.5 cm) is considered heavy rain, and 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm is considered very heavy rain. The High Court of Karnataka has issued notices to the state government, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and others on a petition filed by a man, who lost his wife and minor child in the Namma Metro pillar collapse incident earlier this year, seeking compensation. Petitioner Lohitkumar V Sulakhe filed a writ petition demanding a compensation of Rs 10 crore, claiming that the accident had occurred due to the negligence of BMRCL authorities. Petitioner's wife Tejaswini L Sulakhe (26) and his two-and-a-half-year-old son Vihan, who were travelling on a bike died after the under-construction metro pillar fell on them on January 10, 2023, near Nagavara. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has banned travelling of two-wheelers, autos, tractors, non-motorised vehicles, multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles, and quadri cycles on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway from August 1 onwards. The decision was taken by the authorities amid rise in number of accidents reported on the expressway. The Indian Meteorological department today issued an orange alert for all the coastal districts and Malnad region in Karnataka, predicting heavy rains in the next 24 hours. Video: Man Slips, Falls In Karnataka Waterfall While Posing For Insta Reel

A man slipped and fell into a waterfall before being swept away by the current while filming an Instagram Reel in Karnataka's rain-battered Udupi district Sunday evening. The man has been identified as 23-year-old Sharath Kumar, from Bhadravathi in Shivamogga district. The incident, captured on camera by the man's friend, took place at the Arasinagundi waterfalls, located just 6 km from Kollur village. In a video that is now viral on the internet, the man can be seen standing on a rock overlooking the waterfall, swollen after heavy rainfall in the state. The man then lost his balance and in an instant, fell into the waterfall before disappearing under the roaring waves. A 33-year-old ambulance driver died after the vehicle rammed into a road divider, overturned and caught fire in Telangana's Rangareddy, the officials said on Tuesday. According to the Station House Officer (SHO) Vanasthalipuram Jalandhar Reddy, the victim was identified as Mallesh (33). He said that the incident took place while the ambulance was returning to the city after dropping a patient at Ibrahimpatnam. 25-Year-Old Kerala Man Arrested For Killing Grandparents: Cops

An elderly couple was allegedly hacked to death by their 25-year old grandson in this central Kerala district, police said on Monday. The incident came to light when relatives of the couple went there to give them food, an officer of Vadakkekad police station said. "We received information about the killing of the elderly couple in the morning around 9 AM and immediately lodged a case of murder," the officer said. The officer said that the grandson, who was not there in the house at that time, was later caught by Mangalapuram police and was presently in their custody. Telangana Government To Provide Rs 1 Lakh Aid To Minority Communities

The Telangana government on Sunday issued orders for providing Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to minority communities with 100 per cent subsidy. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's decision to extend financial help to the minorities unveiled another historical milestone towards achieving economic self-reliance of the minority communities in the country, an official release said. Mr Rao, also known as KCR, said the "state government is putting all efforts with a vision to eliminate poverty in all sections irrespective of the caste and religion". The government is already extending support to the deserved sections, he said. As per the order, financial aid would be a one-time grant that would be provided to only one member of a family. The individual age limit fixed for applicants is from 21 years to 55 years as on June 2, 2023. Two fans of Tollywood actor Surya died of electrocution while installing his banner on the ocassion of his birthday in Palnadu district. Nakka Venkatesh and Poluri Sai of Narasaraopet Mandal died due to electrocution in Mopulavaripalem village of Palnadu district in Andhra Pradesh, according to police. 3 Girls Suspended For Taking Video Of Student In Karnataka College Restroom

Three girl students studying optometry course in a college have been suspended after they allegedly videographed a fellow student in the restroom, the college management said on Sunday. Netra Jyothi College director Rashmi Krishna Prasad said the incident occurred on Wednesday and the very next day the students were suspended. The girls were suspended on two counts -- first, they brought the mobile phone which is banned in the college and then taking video, she said. Two children died after drowning in a pit filled with rainwater at the under-construction site of an overhead tank in Karnataka's Kalaburagi on Saturday, officials said on Sunday. Tamil Nadu Couple Fake Accident, Hijack Lorry With 2.5 Tonnes Of Tomato

A couple from neighbouring Tamil Nadu has been arrested for hijacking a truck laden with 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes Ben in Bengaluru after faking an accident to extort money. The couple from Vellore, according to police, was part of a gang of highway robbers, that intercepted Mallesh from Hiriyur in Chitradurga district, at Chikkajala on July 8 and demanded compensation claiming that his truck had bumped into their car. When the farmer refused to pay them, the gang assaulted and pushed him out of the truck before driving away with the vehicle loaded with 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes worth over 2.5 lakhs on July 8. Based on the complaint lodged by the farmer, the RMC Yard police tracked the movement of the vehicle and zeroed in on the gang. Tribal Man Thrashed, Urinated Upon In Andhra Over Relationship With Girl

Six people, including three minors, were taken into police custody after two of them were seen in a video urinating on a tribal man, over his relationship with a teenage girl in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district.  The shocking incident took place last month when one of the accused, Ramanjaneyulu (from a so-called upper caste community), also a childhood friend of the tribal man, Mota Naveen, called him for a drink to clear difference after a fallout over Naveen's relationship with a teenage girl despite Ramanjaneyulu's objection as the girl was reportedly in a relationship with Abhilash, a friend of the accused.  The accused, along with eight other people, of which three are minors, allegedly thrashed and urinated on the tribal man, the police said.  The police had filed a case of assault and intimidation causing injury based on the man's complaint, but he did not reveal that he was urinated upon. A 56-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws during an altercation as part of an ongoing property dispute in the family, police said on Monday after arresting one of her relatives in the case. Leenamani, a resident of Varkala, was allegedly beaten to death by her husband's three brothers with whom she had a property dispute. Police today recorded the arrest of Raheena, wife of the prime accused Ahaed. The search is on for Ahaed, Shaji and Muhasin, the brothers of Siyad, who died over a year ago.
